Alaska: Cost and Departure Dates

CRUISE 650

6 day - 5 night cruise plan, plus one night at Glacier Bay Lodge

Day 1INDEPENDENT ARRIVAL,
GLACIER BAY LODGE

This excursion is designed for the independent traveler. We can help make arrangements to bring you directly to the Glacier Bay Lodge, the starting point for your cruise. This evening enjoy dinner on your own, become acquainted with your surroundings, partake in an evening program presented by a Park Service Ranger, or simply relax in the rainforest setting. Overnight at the Lodge.

Day 2GLACIER BAY, BOARD VESSEL

This morning you are on your own to explore the environs of the Lodge beachcomb along Barlett Cove, take a bike de or just relax with a book. Later today your adventure begins. Of the 350,000 visitors to Glacier Bay each year, most arrive by cruise ships. They all take the same route up the West Arm and then head back out the way they came. Most stand stories above the water to view the wildlife and ice floes. Your cruise adventure is entirely different. In fact, your cruise ship is nothing like a traditional cruise ship. It is a small ship that accommodates 32 passengers. Our nickname for MV Wilderness Explorer is ‘floating base camp.’ It is your home base for your outdoor activities. This afternoon you board the ship, meet the Captain, crew and fellow travelers. Share a meal together before your first night of being gently rocked to sleep in your bunk. D

Day 3GLACIER BAY, SEA KAYAKING

Breakfast is an important meal with so much adventure ahead. Eat up and then head out again, today in search of wildlife. Do you want to see bears feeding along the shoreline? Get close to seals lying on ice flows? Hear whales singing? Watch a bald eagle grab a huge salmon from the water? Your kayak guide takes you in the best direction for prime wildlife viewing. Your day is full of wonders. Your guide makes sure you take it at your own pace so that you can enjoy every minute of your kayak adventure. Head back to dinner with non-stop tales of sightings. Nothing can disturb you in your sleep tonight! BLD

Day 4GLACIER BAY, SEA KAYAKING

Our Captain and crew are experts on secret out-of-the way places that offer the greatest likelihood for discovery and adventure. And you are now an expert kayaker. After breakfast you are off kayaking again. There is no set agenda or schedule. The rhythm of the sea and the solitude are beginning to seep into your bones. How are you ever going to return to civilization? Why would you ever want to return to civilization? Thank heavens, someone has once again packed the perfect lunch. What more could one ask for? BLD

Day 5GLACIER BAY SEA KAYAKING

Have you seen the ice calving into the water? What about a bald eagle diving for dinner? There is an everyday show in Glacier Bay waiting to be discovered. Keep your eyes open as you glide over the waters in your kayak. BLD

Day 6ICY STRAIT

Today is a new day. After breakfast you have the biggest decision of the week to make. Will you kayak in this pristine waterway full of tiny islets and isolated coves? Or, take the excursion craft to an uninhabited island for some backcountry exploration? Maybe you can do both. You are in Icy Strait, a prime spot of humpback whale watching. You can just as easily spend all day at the rail sighting these energetic mammals breaching, spouting, dipping and rolling. It is hard to take your eyes off the water with the promise that one of these ‘gentle giants’ will leap again soon. The day draws to a close and so does your kayaking expedition. Tonight celebrate a wonderful time with your new-found friends. Toast the Captain at the Farewell Dinner. BLD

Day 7GLACIER BAY LODGE & RETURN HOME

This morning you enjoy your final lumberjack breakfast. Your active adventure cruise comes to an end at Glacier Bay Lodge. Disembark your vessel at the Lodge for your transfer to Gustavus Airport or the Ferry Dock. B
