Kodiak Island Wildlife Refuge: This beautiful wildlife refuge occupies two-thirds of Kodiak Island in the Northern Gulf of Alaska. It's visited by people from all over the world due to its scenic beauty and abundant wildlife. The refuge is home to approximately 3000 Kodiak bears, the largest of which can grow to be over 1,500 pounds. In addition to bears, you may have an opportunity to see Sitka deer, mountain goats, tundra wolves, and red foxes -- not to mention seals, sea otters, sea lions, dolphins and whales. Access to the island is easiest by boat or floatplane.
