Sea Kayak, Rainforest Hike,
Canoe & Reef
8 Days - departs Cairns
Grade: Easy to Moderate
Day 1: Transfer to the
Cairns Colonial Club Resort, meet and greet 6.30pm.
Days 2-4: Sea kayaking,
an easy and relaxing way to explore the uninhabited Barnard Islands.
Sea Eagles and Kestrels ride the thermals overhead, whilst below the
sea surface the waters team with life.
An easy 2-3 hours of paddling each day. Time to swim, snorkel, relax,
explore the islands or further exploration by sea kayak. Nights are
spent camping under a canopy of stars. Day 4 Overnight Mountain View
Hotel.
Days 5-6: Hike through
the rainforest on ancient Aboriginal trails in the shadow of Mount
Bartle Frere, Queensland’s highest mountain. Walk through lush
tropical Rainforest and past giant trees. Camp above a 50m (170ft)
waterfall and sleep comfortably in a hammock, suspended over a
luminous mushroom carpet, in the middle of an ancient rainforest
wilderness. After breakfast and a relaxed start to the day set off for
the return journey by a different route, we cross mountain streams and
stop for lunch and a swim at the Upper Chucka Lunga crossing. Leave in
time to walk out and return to accommodation, Mountain View Hotel.
Day 7: Paddle two-person
canoes on the Mulgrave River. Strangler Figs, jungle vines, rare
ferns, home to kookaburras, kingfishers, parrots, and herons. The
river has some faster sections and small rapids. Overnight Cairns at
the
Cairns Colonial Club Resort.
Day 8: The final day,
sail and snorkel trip to the Great Barrier Reef stopping at Upolu Cay
and Paradise Reef, the snorkeling is superb. Tour ends
INCLUSIONS: TIK, WC, H2 tours,
reef tour, all meals from day 2
