The Kikuyu, Kenya's largest tribal group, believe Mount Kenya's snowy peaks to be the home of their traditional God, Ngai. Point Lenana, its third highest peak at 16,355 (with Batian being the highest at 17,058 feet), is a non-technical climb accessible by ridge walkers and rock scramblers of most ages in good physical condition. Its eco-system sustains dozens of endemic high altitude relic forms of plants which were once widely distributed during the Pleistocene period. The mountain is also an International Biosphere Reserve as well as a World Heritage Site.

Sirimon, Mount Kenya's most scenic route to Point Lenana, begins on the dry side of the mountain, past a teak and bamboo forest to Ol’ Moses. Continue via Mackinder’s Valley on a magnificent hike to Shipton's Camp. An early start is scheduled on the third day to ensure a summit bid in time for the breath-taking sunrise. From the top, begin the very long but utterly enthralling hike via the Lewis Glacier and the Gorges Valley on the Chogoria Route.
